Importance of Restorative Therapy & Exercise

Updated: Jul 18

When was the last time you intentionally took time for rest?   A researched fact says that as human beings require 42% of rest in a 24 hour day.  That works out to be 10 hours roughly a day.  This came as a surprise when I read this and knew that it was very important to share!

There is more and more use of restorative therapies as they are very beneficial and meaningful for proper nourishment and healing of our physical bodies.  To help our nervous system regulate and our body to slow down, we must create a balance of movement exercises and stillness.

Some examples of gentle movement exercises can be:

somatic exercise

Qi Gong, and

dance.

Restorative exercises with mindfulness of the breath are necessary to provide this balance our body needs.  Daily exercise should not require us to be more demanding or difficult to manage in the day - it can be part of our pleasure and can be implemented to any type of daily activity.

In helping to connect our body and our energy of our mind, both men and women have masculine and feminine energies divided by left and right sides of the mind and body.

This means that we have energy in our masculine for doing:

push through, take action and set goals.

And we also energy in our feminine that is used for being:

creativity, nurturing, and self-care.

Remember that it is important to find balance of both of these energies and not strive for perfection as our body is healing, but create balance and harmony of both active exercise and restful and nurturing therapies.

It is also important to remember that it can be a challenge in our busy lives to find time and space for intentional rest, and realizing that our body’s wisdom only can be heard well when we are in a calmer and more aligned state of our mind and body.  I encourage you to give yourself permission to rest and have lots of compassion as your body and mind navigates this journey of active rest and gentle movement.
